Tramadol – types of chronic pain

Chronic pain is characterized by a sensation of extreme discomfort in a particular area of the body that tends to persist for a prolonged period of time. In contrast to common acute pain, chronic pain doesn't wear off with time and usually either remains stable or has an intensity oscillating between mild and moderate. The main problem with chronic pain is that it can be experienced for days, weeks and even years depending on the condition causing it. Besides, there are different types of chronic pain which are classified by the mechanism of triggering and the area being affected. So, chronic pain can be:

Nocoiceptive

This type of pain is triggered by the nerve endings present throughout the body and is connected to trauma, physical influence or internal inflammation caused by different factors. Nerves connect all of the organs, muscles, joints and skin with the brain, sending various forms of signals that are interpreted in the brain. Chronic nocoiceptive pain occurs when there's a chronic condition triggering the nerve endings in a particular part of the body. Such conditions include cancer, arthritis, migraines, muscle sprains and many others. Analgesics like Tramadol are usually effective with this type of chronic pain.

Neuropathic

Neuropathic pain results from the actual damage of the nerve tissue, which also sends signals to the brain. Because the nerves are the actual transmitters of pain signals when they get damaged the pain experienced is quite odd and is usually hard to locate. It's hard to tell where is the actual area of the nerve disorder as the painful sensations may be experienced throughout the body.

Back or joint pain

Back and joint pain is the most common type of chronic pain as what concerns the area being affected. This type of pain mainly results from spine disorders and muscle conditions in the back. Besides, inflammatory conditions such as arthritis can affect both the back and joints, causing chronic pain of different grades of severity.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

This syndrome usually develops in legs and arms after serious trauma such as broken bones or after a surgery. This form of chronic pain is described by a severe burning sensation that can also be accompanied by increased sensitivity, swelling, weakness and inability to operate normally with the affected limb. Doctors usually prescribe painkillers like Tramadol for overcoming CRPS as they are very effective for this type of pain.
